Japan tax filing deadlines in English

The usual Feb 16–Mar 15 window, what changes if you amend or leave Japan, and when resident tax shows up.

Japan's annual income-tax filing window for tax year 2026 runs from Feb 16, 2027 through Mar 15, 2027.

Income earned in 2026 is filed between Feb 16 and Mar 15, 2027.
Direct-debit (振替納税) settlement is usually in late April.
You can generally amend a prior return within 5 years.
Resident tax (住民税) is billed separately by your municipality, usually in June of 2027.
